Teaching
I teach history because grappling with the past builds empathy and critical distance from the present. Across my courses the aim is the same: to get students thinking carefully about the past, whether by reading a document closely, weighing evidence, or pursuing their own research questions.
Previous teaching
- The United States Since 1974
- Independent research mentoring
- Writing instruction
My students have published research in The Concord Review and been admitted to Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, New York University, and George Washington University, among other universities.
I am glad to hear from students interested in Qing political or administrative history. A full record of courses and mentoring is in the CV.
